'Booster' Groups
A 'Booster' group can afford a small group of children the chance to receive extra support (eg: in Maths or English) in a supportive environment.
Q. I've been asked to create a 'Booster' English / Maths group and add it to the current Year 11 timetable. We would then be able to give select students a separate timetable.
This is easy to do when students are doing an Option subject (such as Monday lesson 1) as I just add a class to the column because all students are 'on' at the same time.
It is more difficult on Monday 3, when students could either be in Science (11F-J) or RE (11A or 11B) or Enterprise (11c or 11d or 11e) - any tips?
A. There are two possible ways forward:
[In either case, make a Backup first, in case you want to return to where you are.]
-- 1) As you say it’s easy for those periods where you have a block for 11ABCDEFGHIJ across the whole year, to just add an extra Teaching Group by adding an extra teacher.
You could use the same idea by adding an extra Teaching Group to one of the lessons in Monday:3, etc. If you added it to 11A's lesson, then the students in the 'Booster' group would become nominal members of 11A for that period.
-- 2) But in the long run I think it will be easier to add an extra class to year 11 [eg. class 11X],
by:
-- On the Classes Screen [HelpMovie 15] use the ‘New’ button to add an extra class [eg. 11X],
-- On the Batches Screen [HelpMovie 24B] add a new Batch,
-- In this Batch, add the new activities for 11X, [ie. the Booster lessons],
-- Go into the Current Schedule and Load this batch, and then assign these Booster lessons.
Note: If you are exporting-importing to an MIS then you may need to tell the MIS that there is an extra class 11X before you do the import.
After the import you should be able to allocate any of the students to class 11X in any period ... but how this is done will vary between MIS, so you should check with your MIS supplier first.
