How do I use the Rules for students' Choices?

Choice Rules

Note that there are two kinds of Rules in Options. This article discusses the Rules that you can apply to verify that the Students have chosen their Choices correctly.
[See a separate article for how to use the Rules that decide how the Options Pattern should be created.]

There are over 10 Rules that you can choose from, for example:

Example 1.   Students must choose exactly 1 subject from Faculty 2.
If you had grouped only Humanities subjects in a 'Faculty 2' on the Subjects Screen, then this Rule will tell you if a Student does not choose any Humanities subject or if s/he chooses more than one.
[Note : The 'Faculty' does not have to be a real Faculty ...it is just a grouping of subjects for this purpose.]

Example 2.   Students must choose at least one Subject from Faculty 3.
If you had entered only Science subjects in 'Faculty 3' (on the Subjects Screen), then Options will tell you if a student does not choose any Science subject.

Example 3.   Students must choose no more than one subject from Faculty 4.
This is useful if Faculty 4 has very similar subjects like 'Drama', 'Performing Arts' and 'Expressive Arts' and you do not want any student to do 2 or more of them.

Example 4.   Students must choose BOTH these subjects, or neither.
If they choose to study GNVQ-1 and they must also study GNVQ-2 as well, then this Rule will warn you if it is broken.

The program will check the Students' Choices each time you click on the Rules Check button, and give you a Report listing the Students that have broken the Rules.
