Joined Classes [SC]

Joined / Joint / Merged Classes

       Overview:
In StaffCover, when classes (usually small ones) are joined together in order to reduce the number of covering teachers required, then the XML Export file at ‘Review -> Export -> to XML for Third-Parties’ will include both teachers being covered for.   This has the advantage that if your MIS or internal systems are importing the XML file, then the covering teacher will be able to do the attendance for all the students in the new joined class, instead of having to do it separately for the two classes with absent teachers.

       How does it work ?
This example helps to illustrate, but more details are available on request:

-- What to do in StaffCover: A teacher (CJ) taking class 8A in room 27 is absent.  A coverer (HB) has been asked to cover 9C (usually taught by JW) and take them to room 27.   So (importantly) you have said that both classes are in the same room (27).

-- What appears in the Export file:  When you go to ‘Review -> Export -> to XML for Third-Parties’, the XML file created will say that HB is covering for CJ(8A) as well as for JW(9C).  The line (or it could be more than one line if more than two groups were involved) saying <moving>Y</moving> against CJ's lesson denotes that HB is moving to cover these students, as well as the students he is shown to be covering directly in StaffCover.

This feature is especially used in Malta.
