Ways to staff a Lesson

Possible ways to Staff a Lesson

There are 4 ways of staffing a lesson (ie: telling TimeTabler which teacher will take this group/lesson):

1   With a specific teacher: select the specific teacher you wish to take this lesson/group.

2   With a Pool teacher: choose the Teacher Pool from which you want the teacher to come (eg: =Mu for the Music Pool).  More details here.
Be aware though, that Pools are only recommended for subjects that have few lessons in a cycle ...see the 'caveats' part of Section C20 in your TimeTabler Manual.

3   With 'any teacher': just choose "(no teacher yet)" and when you schedule this lesson, TimeTabler will choose a (sensible**) teacher for you.   Teachers chosen by TimeTabler are said to have been "auto-staffed"; you will be warned about them, and can review them on the Class Timetable screen (choose 'Style -> Highlight -> Auto-staffed lessons').
**A teacher who teaches this subject, if one is free.  Of course you may not agree with this choice, in which case you can change it.

For further details on this, see these articles too:
-- Scheduling unstaffed activities
-- Auto-staffing

4   With 'no teacher': select a teacher called xaa (or xxb ... xxz) to denote that you do not want this lesson to have a teacher.   Note: 'no teacher' is common with an Alternative-Curriculum (A/C) lesson, but with other lessons, you will be warned if you export to your MIS.  You also have the choice of how 'xxa' will look on your timetable printouts - via the 'Print -> Publishing your Timetable' screen.

For more details of any of these methods, please ask the Support Centre.
